As you probably know, Facebook advertisers must follow strict guidelines when running ads connected to politics and social topics. However, if you run advertising in the United States, you should be mindful of a restricted period looming for the midterm elections.
Here’s what you should know…
Facebook has said there will be a specific restriction period running from 12:01 AM PT on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, to 11:59 PM PT on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, if you are running advertising connected to politics and social problems in the United States.
During this time, no new advertising will be accepted.
This is critical. If you’re running advertising for a customer, you can’t put them off until the last minute. They will not be approved until November 8 if they are not running by November 1.
Put another way, this isn’t simply about submitting advertising before November 1. Prior to that time, “the advertisement must have been designed with a valid disclaimer and have delivered an impression,” according to Meta.
Do not hesitate.
What will you be able to do after Nov 1st?
If your ads received an impression by Nov 1st, you’ll be able to take the following actions during the restriction period:
- Edit the budget you’re willing to spend on your Facebook campaigns or ad sets on a daily or lifetime basis.
- Click a word to read the full description, bid, and scheduled end date
- Pause and unpause the ads that were already running
That’s not much. Presumably, you won’t be able to do anything else. But, Facebook lists explicitly the following actions that won’t be allowed. You can’t…
- Edit ad copy and creative
- Edit targeting, placement, and optimization. How you optimize impacts who sees your Facebook ad.
- Remove or add a disclaimer
